$9.00

2019. 9 min.

instrumentation: Tenor or Soprano, Piano

music: Fran Daniel Laucerica

text: Pablo Neruda

written for: Pablo David Laucerica

premiered: March 4, 2020. Northwestern University. Evanston, IL

program note: "XX: Puedo escribir los versos" is unique among Neruda’s famous Veinte Poemas de Amor y una Canción Desesperada in that in addition to being a reflection of love, it is equally a reflection of nostalgia and isolation. The sweeping piano figures evoke a fog of reminiscence and contrast the metered sections which punctuate moments of impassioned longing. This poem is a work of rage, lust, yearning, and vulnerable despair and the piece should reflect the variety of these emotions.
